Note: Hope 38.5mm QR clamp has to be ordered separately! (I won't take orders without it)
Note: the photos with the red Brompton show the Model 2 which is no longer available and has been suceeded by the Model 4.2.
The #Seatposthugger Model 4.2 is the successor of the model 4.1 The lower plate no longer wraps around the full tube circumference and is now similar to the upper plate. This minimizes braze time and Acethylene gas and it's still more than strong enough (as usual). Just like the 4.1 it has a brazed on clamp boss for adjusting the play on the seatpost for when the Hope QR clamp is released. This enables easy sliding and wear adjustment on all different seatposts for Brompton. The original Brompton seat sleeve is no longer glued in place, but installed using carbon assembly paste. This causes enough friction to prevent rotation of the sleeve inside the seatposthugger. This minimizes production time (and thus price increase) and the Cyanoacrylate glue is a nasty chemicals which should be avoided whenever possible. Sleeve replacement, if ever needed, is a very simple job now. The sleeve doesn't need any reaming, play is adjusted with the bolt at the bottom.
The seatposthugger is a luggage carrier which is designed to hold the Brompton front carrier block and clamps onto your Brompton 31.8mm seatpost. It's only compaitble with the plastic carrier block of Brompton and copies made by other brands like Trigo. It's not compatible with CNC-ed aluminium carrier blocks and not with the Eerder metaal #Allsteelcarrierblock
Installing the Seatposthugger Model 4.2:
So in case you have a standard or extended (60 mm longer plain) seatpost you just remove the saddle and slide the Seatposthugger onto the post.
The Model 4 can be adjusted to slide freely by opening the Hope Quick release clamp and tighten or loosen the clamp bolt at the bottom to get the desired smooth sliding. It arrives pre adjusted but not all seatposts are exactly the same. This bolt is not meant to be used for clamping, just for play adjustment. You might need to re-adjust the Hope Quick release as well depending on your seatpost.
Happy riding!
